On these pages, I will be covering the 2008 Corus Chess Tournament. The world's top grandmasters will be in this tournament, including Vishy Anand (2799), Vladimir Kramnik (2799), Veselin Topalov (2780), Mamedyarov (2760), Leko (2753), Vassily Ivanchuk (2751), Levon Aronian (2739), Boris Gelfand (2737), Radjabov (2735), Carlsen (2733), Adams (2726), Judit Polgar (2707), Eljanov (2692), and Loek van Wely (2681). Last year, Aronian, Topalov, and Radjabov were joint winners. I imagine that this year, Kramnik, Anand, Carlsen, Topalov, and Radjabov have good winning chances. I make this estimation based on the experience of Anand, Kramnik, and Topalov and the youth of players like Radjabov and Carlsen. Topalov is an interesting player to watch because when he is on a winning streak, almost no one can stop him. His problem is that when he loses, he also does that well! Kramnik is known for his cool positional play, and Carlsen is known for his genius and is certainly representative of a new generation of chess players. I hope that Judit Polgar will regain her usual playing strength. Of course, there could be an upset, and all of these players are outstanding, so this will be an exciting tournament to watch. I hope that you enjoy my commentary. As usual, I will try to analyze these games based on positional factors rather than by computer analysis. My focus will be based on three critical factors: time, space, and material.
